Prop 8 Right-Wings Last Stand
It's so totally unfair that as Obama's numbers rise, right wingers are retreating to California to put everything into passing Proposition 8. If the proposition passes, gay and lesbian people will no longer be able to get married. The California Supreme Court stated in a 4-3 decision that it isn't fair to discriminate against gays and therefore gay marriage is legal. This made it possible for thousands of same-sex couples to get married, and many more to begin planning. It seemed that the tide was finally turning when a poll showed the Yes on 8 people were losing steam. The Supreme Court decision meant something to many people and it began to resonate. Unfortunately there will always be those people that use their religion instead of admitting their ignorance. Because believe it or not after months of gay people getting married, the sky hasn't fallen. No heterosexual rights were taken away, no straight couple's marriages started to crumble. Gay couples have been getting married in Massachusetts for years now and the institution of marriage is still on solid ground. There hasn't been a rise in divorce.I held out hope that reasonable people were going to prevail, UNTIL.....

The Mormon Church began to pour money into the campaign, as did all other right-wing factions of the Republican party from all over the country. The main focus of the Christian-right is now the passage of Prop 8. In recent weeks Yes on Prop 8 has surged in the polls due to them outspending us by over 10 million dollars in ads, despicable untrue ads, outright fear-mongering ads. They've given up on McCain/Palin and are gathering here with all their resources and time to claim a moral victory. As always at the expense of gays and lesbians.

A Very Rare Bloom

Her Eyes Are On the Giant Igloo in D.C., an Amazing Story!
Hubby Todd Palin doesn't mind, in fact he enjoys all the attention. He is a snowmobile racer who has won the 2,000-mile Tesoro Iron Dog contest many times and is a veteran oil-field worker and commercial fisherman affectionately dubbed Alaska's "first dude." "He's hot", cooed Paris Hilton.
He's a man who took college courses but does not have a degree, yet can hold his own in sophisticated circles, even hosting a reception for five former Alaska first ladies earlier this month. At home, Todd Palin has juggled the cooking and taking care of the bills with driving the kids to extracurricular activities like basketball and soccer.
Sarah Palin's first dream in life was to be sportswriter, covering hockey and basketball before getting involved in politics.
"They both sound gay", whispered Hilton.

McCain now ahead in Reuter/Zogby poll
It's possible because voters have been seeing what looks like a father talking down to his son. It almost reminds me of the early 1970's discussions with my father at the dinner table over the Vietnam war. It always ended with Dad being right. It was very clever of the Republicans to make Obama look like a kid with no substance who can achieve star status.
Why did he even go to Europe? To me, he stood out not because he had the stature of a man ready to be leader of the free world, but because he looked juvenile among the older powerful leaders. I could almost see them giving Obama the don't slouch elbow.
I believe Obama is a brilliant politician as well as an extremely intelligent man who surrounds himself with the expertise he needs to win. Just look at his meteoric rise, the Obama people are geniuses who orchestrated a stunning win against (of all people) the powerful Clinton's!
On the other hand, does anyone remember Howard Dean? He also had this huge groundswell of support. This support became very tenuous when he yelled *YAHOO!!! Is Obama brilliant enough to hold himself back from screaming *YAHOO?
That's all he really has to do. The country has been so dissatisfied with Bush, Bushies cronies such as McCain, and the whole damn Republican party, not to mention their handling of the war on terror, Iraq, and the economy. It's time for the Democrats to heal things. McCain, a Republican, would be a huge step backwards. Most polls, up till now, have consistently echoed that sentiment.
Another thing Obama really needs to do is strengthen his base. We are treading new ground here. It appears the US is poised to elect its first President of African/American descent. People are still hurting about Hillary. Tossing a bone to the Clinton's at the DNC won't heal that wound. I dare say it, but if he really really really wants to be the next President of the United States he better chose Hillary as his running mate.

Gay Marriage, Round Two
Nobody, as far as I know, has compared the fight for marriage equality to a sporting event. So I think I will make an analogy as I gag...
Its like boxing. First round went to Newsom. Now the second round goes to Newsom.
What really irks me is the media spin on the California Supreme Court's decision. The sound bite generally has been "Gays are celebrating, but may be short-lived."
The fact is six of the seven Judges were appointed by Republicans. I read their bios at
http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/supreme/justices.htm and held out the slimmest hope that something positive would sway the Justices. Thank goodness that is what happened. How could they not see something that was happening right in front of their faces? Its called LOVE.
Can you believe that there are still people who'd deny us that? Hopefully, if there is a measure on the ballot this November in California that would ban and nullify this historic decision, it won't matter because the voters will be on our side this time. Arnold has already said he respects the Supreme Court decision and won't endorse an amendment to the constitution, so there.
Temo and I got hitched when Newsom first acknowledged that the current interpretation of the constitution was unfair subsequently breaking down the barrier and allowing us to marry. Four years later the brave California Supreme Court agreed with him. (And they're not activist Judges as Bush would have you believe.) If you want you can read the opinion.
http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/opinions/documents/S147999.PDF
As for the Presidential election this fall and how this may rile up the base. So what!!!! McCain is going to lose so bad. So what if the gay marriage issue galvanizes the so called "religious right" and they vote for McCain. Obama has galvanized the country and the Democratic party. The Dems are unstoppable this fall.

Mariah Married? I Hope Not...(unless it's true love)
Mariah Carey married a man who is 10 years her junior. His name is Nick Cannon. He is a Rap artist and a television personality. A success in his field. They have been dating for one month. Nick was engaged to another singer only three weeks after they met but recently broke off the engagment. There are rumors that Nick Cannon is gay because of his "intimate" association with Reginald VelJohnson, the African-American actor of Die Hard 2 fame. For all we know he may be a long time family friend who does know him personally. It's ridiculous to think that ones close association with a gay person makes them gay enough to start the rumor mill going.
Ha!

"Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law.
I have learned a great deal from your posts and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination.
End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?(I'm pretty sure she's a virgin).
3. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
4. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
5. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Aren't there 'degrees' of abomination?
6. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?
7. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
8. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging!"

She lost her bid, now she wants to do the same for Hillary...

Ferraro: Obama Where He Is Because He's Black
I believe that Barack Obama would be the front runner regardless of his race. I don't even think of race when I see him. I think of youthful vigor, style, self confidence. He's perfectly suited to be President, like Kennedy, he's got great charisma. I still feel he doesn't have the experience that Clinton would bring to the Presidency. True those words were used against JFK, but times were different. We're now fully engaged in a war. The economy is at 20 year low(today the market went up 400 pts who's playing games with the stock market?). Maybe the country needs someone with inexperience to clean up this mess Bush is leaving. That's a thought.
Can he beat McCain in November? I think it depends on how things are going in Iraq. Everyone knows now that as a Senator he voted against going into Iraq. If things are not going well in Iraq, he'll be sitting pretty, but if things go well in Iraq, McCain will look good since (he'll claim) he wrote the original script and say stuff like, things are so much better now, lets stay the course, we're still not safe from terrorism (with a few Al-Qaida threats thrown in). On the other hand, the majority of Americans are sick and tired of the blood shed and of spending 15 billion dollars a month in Iraq. Yet, if we focus more on the economy, I think McCain will lose against Hillary or Barack. McCain's idea on how to help the economy is the same as Bush's and nobody wants that.
I still haven't been convinced that Hillary doesn't have what it takes to beat McCain.
Let me put it this way: Will Obama be able to take the heat? The Republicans are very sleazy and they'll turn inexperience into a disease. If you think Ferraro dirtied up the race, wait till the real bigots get started, and they're mostly Republicans.

McCain's Unlikely Ally Could Give Him a Surge!
Is it possible that when she's in Iraq on her humanitarian mission she's being used and fooled by the General? I'm sure she feels safer touring Iraq, but is her account accurate?

It's Not Over Texas Dems
I hope I don't come off as being against Obama. I'm for a Democrat. One just happens to have more experience and makes me feel more comfortable about the future. I'm afraid that Obama may not have the expertise around him that Hillary has around her.I don't know for sure.
Michelle Obama is great and will be a great asset, but Hillary has Bill.
If we're still deeply mired in Iraq in November, will the majority of voters be willing to turn over the country to a young, brilliant, albeit inexperienced senator, or a long-term senator who became a war hero after being a POW for years during the Vietnam war and knows all about Iraq and has had a plan about Iraq from the beginning?
I still think Hillary would be the best candidate to go up against McCain. She has the experience and expertise to get out of Iraq as soon as possible. Her husband was President during the greatest economic boom this country had seen in a long time, so I'd say she also has experience about the economy.
I'm tired of Hillary's negatives! She has no negatives. Unfortunately, she's always had the Republicans attacking her with venom. Since 1992 when Bill beat Older Bush, they hated Hillary because she was and is a strong woman. When she wanted to push her plan for Universal Health Care through Congress, they were so affronted that they've been after her ever since, and then began all the scandals they could sink their dirty yellow teeth into to try to ruin the Clintons. So since 1992 Hillary has picked up a lot of negatives that aren't deserved but discussed OVER and OVER in the media. I am not going to abandon the ship. Go Hillary!

I didn't die, so...
I am a long term survivor. I was diagnosed with HIV in 1987, most likely I was infected in 1981-82. By the early 90's the diagnosis changed to AIDS when my tcells dropped to 76 and I had all the classic symptoms, including a debilitating bout of shingles that left me in constant pain. My body was breaking down and I ran the gamut from thrush to chronic fatigue to weight loss to constant diarrhea. I could not hold down a job. Life expectancy for someone with an AIDS diagnosis was 6 months to 2 years. I was literally told to get my affairs in order. My Doctor suggested that I retire from my job as a clerk in a clothing store and collect Social Security Disability. Most of my friends were either dying or had died by then and I saw retirement as a way of saving my own life. In the early 90's the only drug to fight HIV available was AZT, which I took in combination with acyclovir and bactrim, but it wasn't enough to stop the onslaught of more opportunistic infections. Fortunately I didn't have to worry about earning a paycheck anymore and felt very relieved at that. I was receiving good health care through medi-cal and medi-care, and because I lived on SSDI I qualified for full drug coverage. It was basically a government insurance because money was taken each month from my check. I believe that is how I survived the 1990s before Protease Inhibitors, also known as "the cocktail", came along and extended my life expectancy.
My Partner is also a long term survivor and has experienced trials and tribulations even worse than my own.
We both have been taking the cocktail since 1997 and while my Partner has had to deal with serious cardio vascular disease and several bypass surgeries that may or may not be related to the medicine, I have only had to deal with the daily nausea, diarrhea, the painful neuropathy that I've had along, and the fatigue. We both have to be monitered every 6 weeks to see if our liver and kidneys are still functioning.
The great news is that we're both still here. I count my blessings. I survived what was once considered a death sentence.
Even after everything we've been through we love life and continue to thrive, but that is not without expense. Our medications alone cost over 3,000.00 per month for each of us. Doctor visits, emergency room visits, sometimes even hospitalization can and does go over $100,000.00 per year. We've been so lucky but our luck is running out, because the government now expects us to share in the expense.
How can we do that? I sometimes think about getting a job so we can have a little extra money, but I would then forfeit my pension and possible future benefits. And really, who would want me on the company group policy? That's besides the fact that I would need to find a job where they're very understanding about HIV, the side effects, and the time spent in the restroom. And I'm still not sure my health can handle the daily grind of earning a paycheck.
We live in one of the most expensive cities: San Francisco. The government doesn't care where you live. A certain poverty level is decided and whether you're in Peoria or San Francisco, if you're above that level you have to pay. Property you own and live in is not considered. Example, In San Francisco a person can own and live in a house worth $1,000,000.00, but if their yearly disability amount doesn't exceed 11,900.00, they qualify for the extra prescription help. Yet, if another San Franciscan pays $1,000.00 or more in rent, but their disability amount exceeds 11,900.00, even by as little as $15.00, they don't qualify for the extra help.
I could go on.....

The Lesser of Two Evils? Not!
I can't recall an election or even a primary where that wasn't true. It was always the lesser of two evils, but this time in this primary, in my opinion, its the greater of two goods, and that makes me feel positive for the first time in many years. Isn't it great that we can witness history whether it be the first African-American President or the first woman President? If Obama is nominated, I'm sure Bill Clinton will jump on that band wagon and be his number one supporter ASAP. If Hillary is nominated will Michelle Obama do the same?
